August Review: Books I Read This Past Month
Here’s a list of everything I read in August! I had a lot more down time this month and was able to read A LOT. I started a new series, and am already halfway through - it’s been so long since I read through a series and I forgot how much I loved it. If you have any favorite series that you’ve read please send your recs my way!
The Jetsetters, Amanda Eyre Ward (★☆☆☆☆)
I know this is a Reese Bookclub choice, and normally I agree with her picks but I reallyyyyy didn’t like this one. I had a hard time getting into it, attaching to characters, and sticking with the storyline. The story and characters were very surface level and I just didn’t like it. I finished it, hoping it would get better, but was not relieved.
A Court of Thorns and Roses, Sarah J Maas (★★★★★)
I’ve seen this series all over TikTok and have only heard how obsessed people are with it. I don’t usually read fantasy books, so I was skeptical. BUT I love Game of Thrones so I figured it would be similar with the addition of more mythical creatures. I started reading and was HOOKED, I read this book so fast (partly because I was elevating my foot and couldn’t walk lol). The storyline and characters are so well developed - it feels like you’re sucked into their mythical world.
A Court of Mist and Fury, Sarah J Maas (★★★★★)
As soon as I finished the first book and returned from vacation, I ran to the bookstore and got the second book in the series. I also flew through this one in a couple of days. This one gets spicier, has a lot of turns, and left me wanting the third book to start ASAP.
A Court of Wings and Ruin, Sarah J Maas (★★★★★)
Just as good as the others and I wasn’t surprised at how quickly I finished reading! This was a lot more graphic and detailed because part of the main plot was focused on war / battle but it wasn’t too bad that I couldn’t handle it. Definitely not as gory as Game of Thrones! I loved how the character development keeps getting better, relationships are forming and growing deeper. The author really does an amazing job at continuing the story but not making it as predictable as most series!
Drop Dead Gorgeous, Rachel Gibson (★★☆☆☆)
I was really intrigued by this plot - two gals die and are stuck “in-between” and don’t quite go to heaven but are in a coma. Polar opposites, switch lives and bodies as they continue to live their life in their new body (as the same soul). They get a second chance at life but have to continue as the other person. They realize everything on the surface isn’t always the truth, money and a thin body don’t equate to happiness, etc. The storyline was interesting but I got annoyed with the character dialect and struggled to get into it!
Something Wilder, Christina Lauren (★★☆☆☆)
I love books by Christina Lauren (best friends actually, not a single author!) and I was really excited for this one to come in from the library. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting but I was slightly disappointed. The romance storyline was cute and there was a lot of history tied in really well, but there were a lot of things that popped up in the plot that had me SO confused. Just confused about where the heck it came from or where it was heading, so out of left field. It was okay, but I’ll recommend their other books first!
Rivals, Katharine McGee (★★★★★)
This is the third book in the “American Royals” series and I’ve been waiting impatiently to get this from the library. I finished it in a day! It’s an easy, fun read and because I’ve read the other books I was already sucked into the characters and their drama that was continued / resolved in this one. The ENDING was so good and not at all what I expected. The series' last book is coming out sometime in 2023 but I wish I had it now to find out what happens! The series follows the lives of the royals as if America and every other country were ruled by monarchs. It’s a really interesting storyline - add in drama, identity crises, and lies/blackmail - it’s golden.
If you want to keep up with what I’m reading, my favorites, and what’s on my reading list make sure to add me as a friend on Goodreads !
